Partners wanted in Poland, Czechia and Germany

See inside the dryer. Prevent dryer fires and dry with precision.

Videokontroll is an independent thermal measurement and monitoring system for cross-flow grain dryers. It makes overheating visible before it becomes a fire, and streams live data online so operators and service partners can follow the drying process from anywhere.

DryerDoctor Ltd. is looking for local partners for sales, installation and service.

An independent measurement layer

Videokontroll is not a dryer controller and does not replace the manufacturer's automation. It adds temperature measurement across the entire drying zone, on any make of cross-flow dryer, so operators and service engineers finally see what happens inside.

  • Sensors mounted on the outlet air ducts of the drying zone
  • Live thermal map, average temperature and flagged columns
  • Data collected online and stored, available in a web application for live and later analysis
  • Custom-built for each dryer model

The drying zone cannot be seen directly

Inside the grain column, small differences add up. Videokontroll makes them visible through distributed temperature measurement.

  1. Uneven grain flow through the drying zone
  2. Differences in airflow
  3. Uneven heat distribution
  4. Local temperature differences, which Videokontroll shows on the thermal map

What the operator sees

A live temperature grid across the entire drying zone, updated continuously.

  • Average temperature at a glance
  • Measurements displayed as a thermal map
  • Columns flagged when discharge runs too slow or too fast
  • All data logged, so the process can be reviewed afterwards in our web application

Measurements from real dryers

Thermal maps from operating installations, before and after technical intervention. Pick a case.

Case 1: a localized hot row disappears

One isolated row ran above 80 °C while the rest of the zone was far cooler. After the intervention the heating curve evened out.

average52.8→°C42.8
Thermal map before: hot row above 80 degrees
Before · 4 Sep 2020Average 52.8 °C, a localized hot row over 80 °C.
Thermal map after: even heating curve
After · 22 Oct 2020Average 42.8 °C, hot row eliminated.

Case 2: a sharp jump in two rows

Two rows jumped to 83–91 °C. The cause was traced and fixed, and the next measurement showed a gradual, even heating curve.

peak rows, °C83–91→heating curveeven
Thermal map before: sharp jump in two rows
Before · 10 Oct 2020, morningAverage 39.8 °C, sharp jump to 83–91 °C in two rows.
Thermal map after: gradual even curve
After · 20 Oct 2020Average 45.8 °C, gradual and even heating curve.

Root cause: incorrectly labeled butterfly-valve controls. Mixed-up labels caused confusion on the control levers, so this was a setup issue, not a design flaw. Only a measurement across the whole zone made it visible.

Case 3: from wide spread to an even zone

Columns showed a wide temperature spread. A year later, after the intervention, the distribution across the drying zone was far more uniform.

average56.4→°C45.4
Thermal map before: wide spread across columns
Before · 16 Nov 2021Average 56.4 °C, wide spread across columns.
Thermal map after: even distribution
After · 5 Oct 2022Average 45.4 °C, even distribution across the zone.

Case 4: season-over-season comparison

Continuous logging lets the same installation be compared from one season to the next. The distribution improved, and the data shows where further fine tuning is needed.

average31.2→°C22.2
Thermal map before intervention
Before · 9 Nov 2015Average 31.2 °C.
Thermal map after intervention
After · 14 Nov 2016Average 22.2 °C. Better spread, further fine tuning still necessary.

Burner test on an empty tower

With the dryer empty, we started the fans and the heat generator. The thermal map shows a malfunctioning burner, even on the cold side.

Where do overheated bands come from?

Uneven distribution of air ducts on the dryer surface changes air speed and drying efficiency. The thermal map then shows horizontal overheated sections. This is common in grain dryers in Hungary.

Results are specific to the installations shown and depend on dryer type, crop and operating practice.

Questions it helps to answer

Any overheated areas?

Find hot rows and overheating early, before it becomes a fire risk.

Is the heat load symmetrical?

Spot uneven drying across the zone.

Is the exhaust system working?

Detect irregular discharge and airflow patterns.

Is air velocity right?

Check whether the drying zone runs too low or too high.

Dryer fires start where nobody is looking

Grain, dust and hot air in large volumes make dryers a fire risk. Most dryers give the operator a single core-temperature reading. Videokontroll measures across the whole drying zone, so hot spots and abnormal conditions can be seen early.

Hot spots and hot rows

Localized overheating, such as a row above 80 °C, shows up on the thermal map instead of staying hidden inside the shaft. See the hot-row case.

Heating while the dryer empties

If the tower runs empty, or grain flow stops or is uneven (for example a blocked inlet), the sudden temperature jump becomes visible.

Overlong heat-up

Core temperatures climbing far beyond the intended level during start-up can be spotted and corrected.

Recorded history

All data is logged, so incidents and near-misses can be analyzed afterwards and operating practice improved.

Videokontroll supports early detection and better operation. It does not replace fire-protection systems or safe operating procedures.
